Major Project Follow-Up: Shishou Yangtze River Bridge Estimated to Be Closed at the End of This Year

Since the main south tower of Shishou Yangtze River Bridge was sealed in April, the construction of the whole bridge has been achieved with great smoothness. At present, the south bank of the bridge hasentered into the phase of stay cable and lifting steel box girder construction.

“A bridge flies from the north to the south to get the both banks connected”. In order to make Shishou Yangtze River Bridge completed and opened early and more than 600,000 Shishou people get off the poor transportation as early as possible, the constructors of the bridge have never stop although the consecutive “hot” days. On the site of Shishou Yangtze River Bridge at daytime, workers are sweating under the hot sun to work hard at the front line of bridge construction site.

Since the beginning of the hottest part of the summer, the temperature has been rising day by day. In order to ensure the health of the front-line workers and the security of the construction, CCCC Second Highway Engineering Co., Ltd Shishou Yangtze River Bridge Project Department has launched the pre-arranged planning of cooling insummer to adjust the work time of workers and ensure the supply of drinking water on the site.

With a full length of 4.315 km, the south bank of Shishou Yangtze River Bridge consists of bridge projects, mainly including three parts, namely main bridge, beach bridge and approach bridge.With a bridge width of 33.5 meters, it consists of six lanes in both directions with a vehicle loading standard of class-Ⅰ highway. According to information, the south bank engineering of Shishou Yangtze River Bridge consists of 59 steel box girders and 26 couples of stay cables. At present, these steel box girders and staycables have already been under comprehensive construction.

Across the river, the north bank engineering has been under construction as well. The main towers at both south and north have formed a super main-span distance of 820 meters. With a full length of 39.7 km, Shishou Yangtze River adopts the highroad standard at the speed of 100 km. Up to now, it has already completed an overall investment of RMB 5.86 billion, accounting for 78% of the rough calculation approved with RMB7.521 billion. Thus, it is one of the bridges that own largest investment scales with the most complicated construction condition all over Hubei Province.The comprehensive construction difficulty ranks top among the same kinds allover the world.

Shishou Yangtze River Bridge is a controlling engineering that “Xinglong-Yangjiang” Section in the National Road 234 crosses the Yangtze River. Moreover, it is the pathway of “Zaoyang-Shishou”,5th vertical line of Hubei 953 highway network, crossing Yangtze River, which starts from Qianjiang to Jiangling Section in Shishou Highway and ends at Jiangnan Highway. Once completed, it will become a rapid pathway crossing Yangtze River together with Jingzhou Yangtze River Combined Highway&Railway Bridge and Honghu-Jiayu Yangtze River Bridge, which will vastly improve the current transportation condition of the eight counties and districts distributing at the both sides of Yangtze River.
